13 Nov Ghost Stories Concludes at GCT
This past October Greenway staged a limited run of our original production Ghost Stories: The Dead Can’t Dance, co-directed by our very own Co-Artistic Director, Pierson Blaetz and Producing Director, Mohammed Ojarigi.
The show took three ghost stories as told by professional Storytellers and wove them together with live music and dance, creating an immersive and unique experience for our audience
Co-Director Pierson Blaetz had a cameo in the performance.
One of the ghost stories featured in the show was a modern retelling of La Llorona, a Mexican folktale about a woman who drowned her own children to wander the night crying. This classic and widely known myth was given new life and a feminist spin on the Greenway stage with the help of our talented cast and crew.

It was an exciting journey to develop this show from the ground up and see it come to life before our eyes, especially as this production was a part of the GreenwayREADs program at Greenway Arts Alliance; a yearly collaboration between Greenway Court Theatre and Greenway Institute for the Arts wherein Fairfax High School Students study a source material with teaching artists and then come see a professional production at Greenway Court Theatre of the source material brought to life. It was fantastic seeing the students respond so enthusiastically to Ghost Stories, some of whom it was their first experience seeing a stage production.

As the spooky season draws to a close, we’re looking forward to continuing to serve our community through the arts and uplifting unrepresented voices on our stage. Next up is Tales of the Trancestors: The Divine, a collaboration with Celebration Theatre, opening in December. We hope to see you there!
