Out with the old, and in with the new. In 2014, Greenway Arts Alliance created new logos to better represent its programming.
Greenway Arts Alliance created an arts accessibility initiative, Greenway Go. The program was designed to increase arts programming at Greenway Court Theatre, opportunities for arts education through Greenway Institute for the Arts, and cultural performances at Melrose Trading Post.
This year was full of drama, drama, drama—luckily, of the theatrical variety. Greenway provided $124,242 in after-school drama and dance classes for Fairfax students, as well as in-school classes for film, Shakespeare, literature, and dance.
Three runs of the Colonial Gazette cost $1,211.43 and a lot of hard work for the student journalists. The journalism club needed $600 to stay running during the school year.
The other extracurriculars thrived as well. Fairfax’s music class were able to purchase drumheads, a mallet case, color guard rifles, and drumsticks for $977.36. They were able to afford instrument repairs with a further $977.36.
The math club showed their skills in a math tournament, costing $500 in tournament fees.
For another, less mathematical kind of battle, Students Run for LA needed $1,125 for uniforms and $1,125 for snacks and beverages for their determined marathon runners.
The Kiwanis Club, a global organization of volunteers working to improve children’s lives, received $800 in membership fees and activities.
ASB Leadership, the principal student government, needed to take a short break from governing the entire student body to request funds for a grill. The break didn’t last long, though, as they got right back to ASB activities! The grill plus the activity supplies ended up at $2,500. Another $2,500 supported the group’s leadership conference. After-school programs were put on by L.A.C.E.R., which has “provided underserved middle and high school students in Los Angeles with free arts, athletics, and academic activities after school. By allowing young people the opportunity to expand their learning, improve their skills and develop new ones in a safe, supportive setting, L.A.C.E.R. fosters scholastic achievement, self-confidence, and good citizenship.” In pursuit of that noble goal, they used a $1,457 Greenway donation for portable mirrors in the dance room and $150 to show appreciation to the custodian.
Greenway seems super busy this year…they would never forget about the athletes, would they?
They sure wouldn’t! The girls’ soccer team needed uniforms costing $1,350, and Greenway delivered. The boys’ basketball team used $1,450 for tournament fees and uniforms.
As some very generous cherries on top of a great year, Greenway helped out the school staff directly. $22,722 went to principal discretionary staffing. $2,100 allowed for additional custodian hours while $1,500 covered more time for the gardener. $327 repaired a faulty sprinkler system and $5,378 purchased a power washer to keep the campus prepared and squeaky clean. $7,408 was set aside for WASC. $41,315 went into the salary for a new clerical position in the main office. Lastly, the teachers were shown how much Fairfax appreciates them with a $1,577 Teacher Appreciation Lunch.
