2002

2002 – $262,863 –

2002 brings us our biggest yearly total yet.

Part of that $262,863 total went to a new expense—the Parent Center. This endeavor needed $18,720 for staffing, $5,000 to create the phone line, and $1,000 for supplies.

The drama program put $181,000 to good use for after-school drama, film classes, and film literacy classes. $3,500 afforded the drama club new sets and costumes.

Greenway Court Theatre began playing host for weekly sessions of the Actor’s Studio workshop: the Writer and Director Lab. It was a huge help for professionals led by playwright Lyle Kessler and artistic director Mark Rydell.

Thanks to GAA’s generosity, Fairfax High School’s senior class was awarded $30,000 in scholarships. The senior class received a further $1,700 and another $790 to assist with graduation.

The cheerleading team needed equipment totalling $763 and GAA delivered, as well as $775 and $2,000 in equipment for the Best Buddies Club and the art history club respectively.

ROTC gained $1,615 in supplies.

The athletic department thrived for another year, as $15,000 in fees and transport ensured that the girl’s basketball team was able to compete in a tournament and show off their skills. $1,000 bought new uniforms for the boy’s volleyball team.

All told—yet another productive year for Greenway Arts Alliance.

Check out this video of the Melrose Trading Post back in 2002.  It’s amazing to see how it has changed!
