1999 – $448,524 – 

     In 1999, Whitney and Pierson continued their work with the Greenway Court renovation. The Greenway Court Theatre was finished with a further $369,219.

This year, GAA again showed support for the athletic department of Fairfax High. 

In uniforms alone, the soccer team received $1,772, the football team $5,539, the basketball team $1,670, the volleyball team $1,080, and the tennis team $840.

Then, the teams still needed equipment. Their needs were met by GAA with $1,550 for the football team, $2,558 for the basketball team, and $2,500 for the cheerleading team.

Finally, the basketball team was able to have transport for away games for $1,250.

You might be thinking that GAA’s resources would be exhausted by this point. Don’t fret!

The other extracurricular programs were not neglected. 

The yearbook club gained $844 in equipment. The music club used $2,860 for the same, as well as the journalism club with $4,400. The ROTC program used $4,500 in GAA-provided supplies.

GAA again assisted with a Washington DC trip, this year contributing a whopping $6,651. 

The school itself benefitted quite a bit as well. 

Equipment for Fairfax’s college office cost $795. $6,979 allowed the library to purchase tables and desks for students to use in their studies. $1,138 went into equipment for the arts magnet and $966 funded equipment for the student store. Fairfax’s main office was furnished for $2,527. Murals by the community-based group, Hollywood Beautification Team, were paid for with $6,150. General school tools and equipment were replenished for $1,467 and the maintenance necessary to repair the school’s golf carts was paid for with $1,100.

Thanks to GAA, the safety of Fairfax students was ensured with $2,500 in earthquake supplies and $1,400 to the school nurse.

The year closed out with a big celebration of Fairfax’s students. You know what we’re talking about—graduation! The event needed a GAA donation of $16,269 and was worth every penny. Congratulations, class of ‘99. They partied like it was—you guessed it—1999.

Greenway Arts Alliance receives an award: Most Outstanding Volunteer. You heard the Los Angeles Administrators Association—so far in our journey, GAA is pretty outstanding.
