Art Contest for Ripe Frenzy

Students Voices Speak through Ripe Frenzy’s Art Contest

A moving collection of works visualizing the effects of gun violence on school campuses was unveiled in the theater.

GIA recently collaborated with the Greenway Court Theatre (GCT) in sponsoring an art contest based on the subject matter for Greenway’s most recent production: Ripe Frenzy. This play grapples with high school gun violence by looking at it through the lens of the media chaos and its devastating effects on already tragic events.

Greenway provided participating students with art supplies and received works from over 30 student in response to the prompt “Gun violence in schools #enough.” Each work shows depth and thoughtfulness about a charged issue that touches student lives every day.

The contest winners were as follows: 1st place– Michelle Macario, 10th grade; 2nd place– Karen Castillo, 10th grade; 3rd place– Nikka Gayoso 12th grade.
