About

Greenway Institute for the Arts (GIA)

is operated by Greenway Arts Alliance, a community-based nonprofit organization whose mission is to unite communities through art, education and social entrepreneurship. Greenway Institute for the Arts fosters education through creativity by offering both in-school and after-school multidisciplinary arts programs.

Through the generosity of our funders and support from individual donors, we are able to provide classes and workshops at no cost to Fairfax High School students. Presented with opportunities to engage with professional artists, young people are able to discover their individual voices and passions. Through Greenway’s unique partnership with Fairfax High, students are exposed to a myriad of opportunities for creative collaboration: both in and out of the classroom, through Greenway Court Theatre, and at the Melrose Trading Post.

The philosophy of GIA

is one of collaboration and learning. Within GIA, students learn to express their individual voices and passions. Paired with professional artists, young people are presented with opportunities for creative partnerships in performing, visual and literary arts. In the spirit of ensemble, programs work together to produce a culminating event in multidisciplinary performance
