• GreenwayREADS 2024: I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter •

Every year, Greenway Institute for the Arts and Greenway Court Theatre engage LAUSD students in the GreenwayREADS program. Each participating class is assigned a Teaching Artist to work with the Classroom Teacher to develop the topics of the novel and bring it to life through arts education and special events.

This year’s chosen novel was Erika L. Sanchez’s award-winning book, I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter. Classes began on January 8 and concluded on February 15, 2024. From January 31st to February 21st, students experienced the play version at Greenway Court Theatre adapted by Isaac Gomez and directed by Sara Guerrero. This production is in proud collaboration with Breath of Fire Latina Theater Ensemble, and has also had a successful sold-out run at the theater for the wider Los Angeles community.

High school students from across Los Angeles County were able to see the beautiful stage adaptation of Erika L Sanchez’s novel. After the show, students were able to chat with the cast, ask questions, and eat pizza with friends before heading back to class.
